Maggies's
Room
|
| This room is dedicated
to Maggie Weber, whom upon arriving in Twin Lakes from Wisconsin,
in 1879, constructed this stagecoach stop, naming it the Twin
Peaks Hotel. Maggie Weber owned and operated this hotel until
her retirement in 1903. She is said to have been a hardened
blustery woman. One story of Maggie Weber’s fiery temper
will probably be retold as long as there are Twin Lakers to
retell it. This is the story of Maggie as an irate prospective
mother-in-law. Maggie’s daughter defied her mother’s
wishes and the results were unpleasant, especially for the man
the daughter was set on marrying, Maggie forbade the marriage
and if they dared leave the hotel together, they would be very
sorry. They, however, did accept her challenge and hurried down
the stairs and as they stepped out the door, Maggie heaved the
contents from a jar of unrevealed identity out of her bedroom
window. The bridegroom was drenched. The young couple nevertheless,
went ahead with their wedding that day. But, in the final outcome,
Maggie was right, for the marriage ended in annulment. |
