This
room is dedicated to the “ghost town” of Interlaken,
(German for “between lakes”). Interlaken’s
heyday was during the 1870’s and 1880’s. The Twin
Peaks Hotel and the Interlaken Hotel were in constant competition
with each other. The Interlaken Hotel was frequented by the
high-class individual, such as politicians, mine owners and
railroad officials. In the early 1970’s Interlaken was
restored and declared a National Historic District, as was
the village of Twin Lakes. Interlaken is only accessible by
cross-country skis, boat or by hiking. It is located on the
south shore of the larger lake. |
