top of Independence Pass, 17 miles due west of the Village of
Twin Lakes, along Highway 82, originally a stagecoach road between
Aspen and Twin Lakes, was first called Mt. Elbert Avenue. Top
elevation of the Pass is 9,227 feet above sea level. |
